For International Women’s Day, the strong women of Lowe’s Home Improvement we’re out building alongside Andrea, her mom, and her grandmother. This quality, affordable Habitat home will be a strong foundation for Andrea and her five-year-old daughter, Dakota.
Meet the Mitchell Family
As a college graduate, Andrea has yet to find a job that allows her to afford a traditional home loan. She and her daughter, Dakota, share Andrea’s childhood bedroom. They also share a bathroom with her brother. As Dakota is growing, it has become harder to make this arrangement work.
Andrea grew up in a safe, stable home that her parents owned, and this is what she wants to provide for Dakota. With the help of Trinity Habitat, Andrea will be able to contribute towards and afford her dream – a place where she and Dakota can be safe, grow, and thrive.
“I appreciate everything you do for families like mine, who may not qualify any other way, but are no less deserving.” –Andrea Mitchell
A Hand Up, Not a Handout
Andrea will invest 250 sweat equity hours in place of a down payment. When she moves into her home, she will pay an affordable mortgage. Because her home has been sponsored by Lowe’s and other donors, her payments will “pay it forward” and help future Habitat families!
Valuable support from Lowe’s
Lowe’s partnership with Habitat began in 2003 and since then, the company has committed more than $63 million and helped more than 6,500 Habitat partner families improve their living conditions. Lowe’s has supported Habitat’s Women Build program since 2008 and since then, more than 10,000 Lowe’s Heroes volunteered in communities across the U.S, including Fort Worth!
Why is it important?
In the U.S., nearly 19 million households spend half or more of their income on a place to live. That means 1 in 6 families have to make the difficult decision between securing housing and paying for food, health care, childcare, education, and reliable transportation.
Trinity Habitat homes are built strong and built with love. Learn more about our Build A Home Program.
