Trinity Habitat for Humanity Celebrates Earth Day Every Day

Habitat for Humanity makes sincere efforts to take care of our planet. Those efforts take many forms. Some involve you. All happen with an eye on the future and with a focus on building strong families and neighborhoods. Building eco-friendly homes helps partner families to keep utility bills low. Savings as small as $20-25 each month is significant for some families. The smallest details make a big difference when giving families a hand up.

Habitat ReStores Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Have you visited one of our ReStores lately? Habitat ReStores in Tarrant County and surrounding areas sell used homebuilding goods in great condition at discounted prices to anyone who’s interested. Local contractors, home remodelers, building supply stores, and individuals like you donate overstock items, extra materials, and items they have removed from homes (like cabinets, doors, or windows) that are in good enough shape to be used elsewhere. The donations are tax-deductible, and all of the proceeds from ReStore sales benefit partner families.

Shoppers who purchase goods at a ReStore save money by using previously loved materials. Donors keep valuable materials out of landfills and give them a second life. Trinity Habitat continues to help families in the community. It’s a win for everybody.

The Homes We Build are ENERGY STAR 3.0 Certified

Each home built by Habitat for Humanity meets the high standards required to achieve an ENERGY STAR Certification. That means the HVAC system has been tested to ensure it runs as efficiently as possible. It means there are no “drafts” in the home where air leaks in/out through gaps around windows and doors. Not only that, but the homes (even the attics) are insulated using spray foam for the best coverage. Spray foam insulation gets into all the nooks and crannies to keep conditioned air inside while keeping unconditioned air outside.

All electrical and plumbing fixtures in Habitat home meet ENERGY STAR and WaterSense® standards, too.

The infographic below explains what the EPA views as the benefits of living in an ENERGY STAR certified home. These are the benefits our partner families enjoy.
