You may not donate with the idea of getting anything in return. Your motivation may simply be to give. But the fact is that you do get something back when you donate to Trinity Habitat for Humanity. Some of what you get is tangible; some is not.
A donation is not a transaction. You don’t hand over a dollar bill and walk away with a product, as though you were making a purchase. That’s not charity; that’s shopping. However, there are tangible benefits to making a donation to Trinity Habitat for Humanity.
When you donate money, property, or household items to Habitat, it is a tax-deductible donation. Keep the receipt and itemize all of your annual deductions at the end of the tax year to see the financial benefit of your donation.
Donating the cabinets and doors after your kitchen remodel or the extra tile after you renovated your bathroom helps the ReStore support the work and ministry of Trinity Habitat for Humanity. It also gets the clutter out of your garage. Habitat gets your support, and you get a cleaner garage.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
You can’t see the intangible benefits, can’t touch them or post pictures of them on social media, but it doesn’t make them any less real. The intangibles are the best part about your gift to Trinity Habitat.
The gratitude of hardworking families
You may never meet the family your gift impacts, but they exist. They fill out the application, put in their sweat equity, and meet the requirements, but they know their new home wouldn’t be possible without you. They’re grateful. Even if they never get to hug you or tell you so in person, they are grateful.
Safety and stability for a child
It’s easy to overlook the fact that building a new home has lasting benefits on the children who will reside there. Your donation means you get the satisfaction of knowing you provided a new sense of safety and stability for a child or a group of children.
Stronger local neighborhoods
Trinity Habitat for Humanity has focused efforts on three Fort Worth neighborhoods: Como, Hillside Morningside, and Carver Heights East. Our intentional presence in these neighborhoods, along with the help of your donations, will bring about change. Those areas will begin to see lower crime rates, increased property values, and a greater sense of community pride.
You get to know that you served Jesus
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 (NIV)
Ultimately, when you give what you have to others, when you give away what’s been given to you, it’s an act of worship. You get to be the hands and feet of the One who gave it all.
