Positively Impact your community, learn skills, and meet new people.
We build strong families and neighborhoods through affordable homeownership! This year, we will build more than 50 new homes and rehab 100+ homes. We are only able to do this with the help of volunteers, just like you!
No construction experience required! Our helpful construction leaders in the green hard hats will teach you everything you need to know. We encourage everyone to try new things and learn new skills.

FAQs
-
Our typical build days run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a 45-minute lunch break around midday. However, during our Summer Hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and on Saturdays year-round, build times are from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During these times, we do not take a formal lunch break.
Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early so we can check everyone in and get started on time!
-
We build in light rain and cold weather, but if conditions become severe, the build may be delayed or canceled for safety reasons.
Please check the announcement bar at the top of our website, the morning of your build day for the most up-to-date weather status. We aim to have updates posted by 6:30 a.m. if there are any changes.
If no announcement is posted, the build is moving forward as scheduled!
-
We prioritize full-day volunteer commitments to ensure projects stay on schedule.
If you’re approved to arrive late or leave early, please notify the green-shirt project manager on-site so they can plan accordingly.
-
We count on your commitment—our ability to build and repair homes depends on volunteers like you!
If you need to cancel, please do so through your Volunteer Account by signing in, locating the event, and clicking Cancel.
If you need to cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled shift, please contact us directly so we can adjust our plans accordingly. -
If possible, consider asking your company or organization to become a sponsor. Sponsors receive first choice of build days, and many of the dates you see on our calendar are available because sponsors have generously released them for individuals and community groups.
If sponsorship isn’t an option right now, no problem! We build year-round (except July and August) and regularly add new volunteer opportunities, so be sure to check our Volunteer Opportunities Calendar often. -
We allow up to 24 volunteers per build site. For larger groups, we can sometimes place your team at nearby homes scheduled on the same day.
Having all 24 volunteer slots filled helps us stay on schedule and make the necessary progress to complete each home for the families we serve. -
Volunteer tasks vary depending on where we are in the construction schedule, but here's a general overview of what to expect:
Days 1–2: Raising & bracing walls
Days 3–4: Truss installation
Days 5–6: Sheathing, sub-fascia, and garage trim
Days 7–8: Window & trim installation
Days 9–11: Siding, caulking & trim
Day 12: Painting & caulking
Please note that activities are not guaranteed—progress depends on weather and volunteer turnout. Check the day number listed on the opportunity to get a general idea of the work that day.
-
Please bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated—there will be a water jug on-site for refills. We also recommend bringing work gloves and, most importantly, a positive, service-oriented attitude! We'll provide all tools and materials needed for the day.
-
Yes, there are portable toilets out on construction sites.
-
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers of all skill levels. No prior construction experience is necessary. Our trained project managers and team leaders will guide you through each task, and you’ll be working alongside other volunteers who are just as eager to learn. Whether you're helping with framing, painting, or landscaping, there’s always a job for you. Plus, you’ll be making a huge impact on a family’s future!
-
Trinity Habitat provides lunch only during Blitz Builds, which will be specifically indicated on our volunteer opportunity listings. For all other build days, volunteers are responsible for their own lunch. If you’re part of a group, please check with your group leader to see if lunch will be provided. We recommend that groups coordinate to either pick up lunch from a nearby restaurant or have it delivered to the build site. Staying on the site for lunch can help keep the day on schedule.

We’d love for you to become a Construction Leader! Our “green-shirts” play a vital role in supporting project managers and guiding other volunteers through construction tasks. As a Construction Leader, you'll help ensure that projects are completed on time while also sharing your knowledge and experience with others. If you're interested, you can join our Cornerstone College program, where you’ll receive training to become a Construction Leader. No previous construction experience is required — we’ll provide you with all the skills and knowledge you need to be successful. Learn more and get started here.

For safety reasons, we cannot allow children under the age of 16 on the construction site, even if they remain off the site itself. Our builds require full attention, and it’s challenging to ensure children stay out of areas where work is being done. We appreciate your understanding and commitment to safety.
-
For insurance purposes, all volunteers must meet the minimum age requirement on the day they volunteer. We are unable to make exceptions. If your child is between the ages of 12-15, they may consider participating in Cowtown Brush Up or contact us for other volunteer opportunities.
-
Yes! Whether for school, work, or a court order, you can complete community service hours with Trinity Habitat.
If your hours are court-appointed, please note that you may only volunteer at one of our ReStore locations.
If you are fulfilling school or work-related hours, you are welcome to volunteer on our build sites. The green-shirt project manager can sign any necessary forms at the end of your shift. If you need a confirmation letter on letterhead, please contact us.
